Entry 163

I couldn’t just sit here and worry about who bumped into me next. I pulled myself up, sucked in my nerves and stepped away from the wall. As I worked through the crowd, weaving and dodging, I stopped when I saw a soul curled up on the ground. He appeared to be choking. I touched him, he was a fresh soul, newly introduced to the moat. I saw them seal his eyes, ears and mouth, then the terror of not knowing what would happen next. His body convulsed when he was thrown into the suffering. At first his mind responded believing he was drowning but that was quickly elapsed by the images from all the others pain taking hold of his mind. While he drifted like a pebble in the waves he curled up into a ball until finally coming to rest on the sandy bottom where he lay awaiting his own nightmares to begin. I could only guess, after time untold, his mind would adjust and just leave him lost in an eternity of his own wraths.

Through the cloudy water, I saw a creature sitting quietly in a little nook. The wandering souls seemed to change their path to avoid him. I worked my way over, experiencing souls along the way. Nothing of note. As I approached I saw him motion for me to join him. That was strange. There was just enough room in his little nook for another person. I sat cross legged with my hands resting on my knees. He lifted his hand and placed it over mine. I was no longer there in the moat on the Fifth Plane, now I was in a starship.

The creature sat in what appeared to be the captain’s seat staring out at a planet, well to say it was still a planet would be a mistake. It was what appeared to be parts of one. There were two large pieces and hundreds of smaller ones. Steams of what must have been water floated in space, undulating bubbles of freezing liquid. The creature whose vision I was seeing, magnified the view on one of the large globules. I could see the razors of crystal arching through the quickly chilling sphere. It was clear, whatever had happed, had just. Inside were masses of plants, sea life, creatures, some looked sentient, all struggling to figure out what to do, of course they were powerless to change their fate.

The image on the screen was focused on one of the creatures, his arms swimming wildly as he tried to escape the frigid tendrils rushing to cradle him in its icy arms. When they finally caught up, all movement stopped as his form was embraced by the solidness of its new tomb. As the image pulled back, where there had been an undulating ball of water there was now a solid irregular sphere of ice with little impurities trapped inside. The chair turned suddenly as the creature rotated around to see his crew all standing watching the deaths below.
